Important Notice: The club has recently sold it’s clubrooms and #1 hangar in order that a new facility be built which better meets our future requirements. The clubrooms and #1 hangar are from Monday the 30th of April no longer available for use. The club will be operating from it's "#3" hangar, at the Western end of the airfield.
Until further notice there is no club accommodation facility and limited hangar space. There are a number of accommodation providers in Rangiora. Visiting pilots should ensure you have adequate tie-downs for your aircraft.
Welcome to the Canterbury Recreational Aircraft Club.

Southern Story
Sage Forest visits Canterbury Recreational Aircraft Club at Rangiora Airfield to talk to some chaps in the ultimate Men's Shed. (12′12″)
Come Fly With Me
In conjunction with PlainsFM, each month the club is giving a free flight to a deserving person nominated by the PlainsFM listeners. Read about September Winner Ian Jury's flight here.
Based at Rangiora, New Zealand, our club is a strong and growing group of people who fly and talk about recreational aircraft.
We have very modern facilities for use by our club members including two large hangers in which members can house aircraft and with the help of the Canterbury Community Trust we have almost completed a third very large hangar to cater for the rapid growth in microlights and aircraft in general at Rangiora Airfield which is possibly the fastest growing aviation site in New Zealand.
The club owns three aircraft, Rans S6 ZK-JOL, Rans S6 ZK-JOR, and Airborne Classic ZK-JOZ. We also have access through members to training in other 3-axis and weight-shift aircraft.
To fly our aircraft you will need a Microlight Pilot Certificate (or a PPL/RPL as long as you belong to the RNZAC), to get started you can contact one of our number of instructors who will not only teach you to fly, but also help you with the minimal paperwork.
Every couple of months we send a newsletter out to our members, we have them online here for you to read.
If you would like to find out more about our club you should just come out one weekend, failing that, please complete our contact form.
Pilots With Disabilities
With the support of the Canterbury Community Trust, the club is pleased to be able to welcome disabled members of our community to become fully qualified microlight pilots.
The club has purchased the aircraft ZK-JOZ which is of a design that makes it "ultra accessible" for paraplegics. Tetraplegic pilots who have some strength in their arms but not necessarily hands may also be accommodated.
This is a new area for the club and we are eager to learn from our disabled pilots how we can make flying our aircraft and being a part of our club a truely accessible and independant sport.
Our experienced instructors will be very pleased to assist you to attaining the total freedom in learning to fly this exciting and affordable aircraft, so please contact us about paraplegic and tetraplegic flight training.
